A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Haixi Prefecture in Qinghai Province in northwest China, with a depth of 10 km, the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) reported on June 16.
The epicenter was monitored at 37.80 degrees north latitude and 95.56 degrees east longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 10 km, said a report issued by the CENC, Xinhua reports.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, and local authorities were assessing the situation.
The quake hit the high-altitude region at 5:06 p.m. Beijing time (0906 GMT) according to CENC.
Several aftershocks were also detected, including one measured at a magnitude of around 5.
