China has called on the European Union to withdraw what it described as “unlawful unilateral sanctions,” amid reports that a new EU sanctions package could target companies from China and other countries.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks while commenting on reports that the EU’s latest round of restrictive measures against Russia may also affect firms from China, Türkiye, India, and other third countries, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

“China has repeatedly stated that it firmly opposes unilateral sanctions that lack reasonable grounds. We have on numerous occasions made serious representations to the European side and call on the EU to rectify its erroneous actions and withdraw the illegal unilateral sanctions,” the spokesperson said.
