US President Donald Trump has said Americans could potentially benefit from the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence companies through partial government ownership stakes, according to Axios.

The president suggested that such a model would effectively turn citizens into participants in the technological revolution, allowing them to receive a share of revenues from companies whose market value could reach trillions of dollars in the future.

"There's something very interesting about it, where it almost becomes a partnership with the American public," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. "It's like you make them [partners] in this revolution. It would be a beautiful thing. ... It would make 'em rich."

Axios notes that a similar idea has been promoted over the past year by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
