The US House of Representatives has voted to bring forward a bill for consideration that includes aid to Ukraine and new sanctions against Russia, Republican Congressman Don Bacon said on X.
The initiative was supported by 218 lawmakers, while 204 voted against it. A final vote is expected later on June 4.
"This is our Churchill moment and we must pass the test," Don Bacon stressed. The phrase “Churchill moment” refers to a decisive point in history that calls for courage, determination, strong leadership, and resilience in the face of a major threat.
The bill proposes tariffs of up to 500% on a range of Russian goods. It also includes an expansion of military assistance programs for Kyiv.
According to the text of the legislation, the bill would extend the US Lend-Lease program through 2028 and allocate $300 million in military aid to Ukraine in 2026 and 2027.
