British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a virtual meeting on May 22 with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine and continued European support for Kyiv.
According to a statement released by the UK government, Zelenskyy briefed the leaders on recent progress made by Ukraine’s military as it continues to strengthen its defences against ongoing Russian attacks.
The four leaders praised what they described as the resilience and courage of the Ukrainian people and agreed to increase support for Ukraine in the coming months.
They also stressed that confronting Russian aggression remains essential for both European and global security, while reaffirming their commitment to achieving what they called a “just and lasting peace” for Ukraine.
The leaders agreed to remain in close contact and hold further discussions soon.
