BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20. A meeting was held
between Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, and the
Secretary General of the Developing-8 Organization for Economic
Cooperation (D-8), Sohail Mahmood, Trend reports, citing the Ministry of
Energy.
At the meeting, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan, as the first
non-founding member of the organization, is interested in active
and practical cooperation within the D-8, and the head of state
attaches great importance to developing relations with the
organization. It was noted that Azerbaijan is ready to contribute
to strengthening cooperation among member states in all areas,
particularly in the fields of energy, trade, transport
infrastructure, and sustainable development.
Issues related to the establishment of the “D-8 Energy and
Climate Center” in Azerbaijan were discussed. It was noted that
work in this direction is continuing in accordance with the
decision adopted at the 50th meeting of D-8 Commissioners in Cairo.
Confidence was expressed that the Center will become an important
platform for dialogue and cooperation among member states in the
areas of energy transition, renewable energy, and climate
resilience.
The parties also exchanged views on preparations for the “1st
Meeting of Energy Ministers of D-8 Member States,” which is
scheduled to take place as part of “Baku Energy Week.” It was noted
that Azerbaijan’s extensive experience in energy security and the
energy transition, as well as regional energy interconnection
projects, creates broad opportunities for cooperation among member
states. Dialogue within the D-8 framework on energy issues is
important for implementing these opportunities, strengthening
cooperation in the field of energy security, investments in
renewable energy sources, sustainable financing, and the green
transition.
