Iran has reiterated its commitment to maintaining good-neighbourly relations with all countries in the region, including Qatar, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the remarks during a phone call with his Qatari counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“Emphasising the country’s commitment to preserving and developing friendly relations with regional states, including Qatar, the Iranian Foreign Minister noted that the current situation is entirely caused by military aggression from the United States and Israel against Iran, as well as the misuse of U.S. military bases and assets in the region to carry out attacks against the Islamic Republic,” the Foreign Ministry statement said.

The Iranian diplomatic corps also reminded Qatar of its international legal obligations to “prevent the use of its territory by other countries for military aggression against third states.” Araghchi expressed hope that regional countries would move “toward collective and internal peace and security.”
