Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party is set to formally approve Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan as its candidate for prime minister at the upcoming parliamentary elections, during its eighth extraordinary congress scheduled for April 4.

Pashinyan announced the decision on Facebook, stating that the party congress will confirm his nomination, as per Caliber.Az.

“Approve Nikol Pashinyan, Chairman of the party’s board, as the party’s candidate for the post of Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia,” he wrote.

He noted that his candidacy had already been determined through a closed secret ballot within the party, with the results of the vote made public.

The confirmation follows internal party elections held in two rounds, in which Pashinyan secured the top position on the Civil Contract party list, receiving 933 votes.

The formal endorsement at the party congress will position Pashinyan as the ruling party’s candidate for prime minister ahead of the June parliamentary elections.
