ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 2. The current
project portfolio of KazMunayGas (KMG) includes more than 20
projects with a total geological resource base of around 4.7
billion tons of oil equivalent, Trend reports via the company.

The announcement was made by First Deputy Chairman of the
Management Board Kurmangazy Iskaziyev during the Geoscience &
Exploration Central Asia 2026 (GECA-2026).

According to him, taking into account the potential of deep
subsalt formations in the Pre-Caspian region and the Zhylyoi
carbonate platform, the resource base could increase by up to an
additional 60 billion tons of oil equivalent.

He noted that KMG plans to carry out large-scale exploration
activities in 2026–2029, including 2D and 3D seismic surveys, as
well as the drilling of dozens of exploration wells.

The company has completed basin modeling for five out of 15
sedimentary basins, covering about 33% of Kazakhstan’s territory,
where nearly 100% of proven hydrocarbon reserves are concentrated,
he said.

Iskaziyev added that the use of digital modeling data is
expected to accelerate exploration and support long-term resource
growth.

Meanwhile, the company is introducing new technologies,
including wireless seismic receivers that can increase fieldwork
efficiency by up to 20%, as well as electromagnetic pulse sources
used in environmentally sensitive areas.
