A US reconnaissance drone, the Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton, has been spotted again over the Persian Gulf, operating close to Iranian territorial waters, a source familiar with the matter said.
The source said the drone departed from a military base in Italy and has been patrolling neutral waters at an altitude of over 14 kilometres for several hours. Its flight Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
MQ-4C Triton flights in the region are regularly recorded and can last between 10 and 15 hours. The drone was previously observed in the same area just a few days ago.
The Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton is built for real-time intelligence collection, wide-area maritime and terrestrial surveillance, and can augment the capabilities of anti-submarine aircraft like the Boeing P-8 Poseidon.
